ABOUT ARIANNA

Italian and Galician-American mezzo soprano Arianna Paz Ritaccio is a young singing actress and opera/musical theatre crossover performer praised for her “warmth of timber and accomplishments as a comedienne” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and her “all-encompassing” interpretation of song (New England Gilbert & Sullivan Society).

Arianna recently graduated with a Masters in Music (Vocal Performance and Opera) from the Mannes School of Music in NYC. In the 2022/23 season, Arianna made her debut with Long Island Lyric Opera covering the role of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni. With Mannes Opera, she sang “Pane” in Cavalli’s La Calisto. She also joined Classic Lyric Arts for a second summer season, performing in a series of concerts first in Great Barrington, MA and then around the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.

In 2021/22, Arianna made her debut in Italy as a soloist in the Festival Internazionale di Mezza Estate with the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese in Tagliacozzo, Italy, singing as “Rosina” in excerpts of Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia and as “Maddalena” in excerpts of Verdi’s “Rigoletto.” She also sang with Classic Lyric Arts in Novafeltria, Italy, with whom she performed in a series of concerts around the Emilia-Romagna region. She has a keen interest in the intersection between singing and psychology, and conducted her undergraduate thesis research entitled, “The Song Manipulation Task: Linking Musical Form to Social Functions of Song” in collaboration with the Harvard Evolutionary Psychology Lab and the Harvard Music Lab. Throughout her undergraduate career, she enjoyed a close relationship with Harvard College Opera, performing the title role in in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Adele in Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, Susanna in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and Anne Trulove (cover) in Stravinsky’s The Rake’s Progress. She also sang as a featured soloist in a concert of Handel’s Judas Maccabeus with the Harvard University Choir.
